PCRA LawyerJohn A. Julian, Esq. | Philadelphia

John A. Julian, Esq.

A Philadelphia attorney whose practice is focused on post-conviction work: PCRA petitions, direct and collateral appeals, and federal habeas corpus, for people convicted in the Court of Common Pleas across Pennsylvania.

Practice

John Julian briefs and argues in the Superior Court and the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania. In May 2026 the Supreme Court decided In re Shepard Smith, which he briefed and argued at both appellate levels, reversing the lower courts and ordering the return of a client's property after her charges were dismissed. He reviews every inquiry to this office personally. When a case falls outside what he handles, he refers it to a lawyer who does.

  • Admitted to practice in Pennsylvania, Bar No. 332603
  • J.D., Temple University Beasley School of Law, 2022
  • B.A., Economics, University of Pittsburgh
  • Post-conviction, appellate, and federal habeas practice since 2022
  • Author of the guides, 2026 case summaries, and officer record pages on this site

How to confirm a lawyer is licensed

Check any Pennsylvania lawyer before you pay anyone. Families of people in prison are targeted by people who claim to be lawyers or "appeal specialists" and are not. The Disciplinary Board of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania keeps a public record of every licensed attorney, including status and any discipline.

  1. Go to the Disciplinary Board's attorney search at padisciplinaryboard.org.
  2. Search by name or by bar number.
  3. Confirm the status says "Active" and read the public discipline history, if any.

My record: John A. Julian, Bar No. 332603. If a person cannot give you a bar number that matches a record on that site, do not send money.
